Opening a pool after a long break from use? Follow this guide to get your pool back up and running.
Equipment Procedure
- Remove and clean winter cover. Be careful not to dump the cover debris into the pool.
- Inspect and set up the filtration system. Install hoses, drain plugs, and baskets that were removed while winterizing. Replace sand, cartridges, or diatomaceous earth (DE) as needed or clean with filter flush.
- Inspect and tighten the screws around the skimmer.
- Fill the pool until the water level reaches the middle of the skimmer face plate.
- Turn on equipment, remove leaves with leaf-eater, vacuum on waste setting if necessary. Backwash the filter.
- If pool water is clear after vacuuming, then treat your pool according to the below instructions. If your pool water is green with algae, visit your pool professional at Pleasant Pools for clean-up instructions.
Chemical Procedure
For Baquacil Pools with clear water:
- Add 1 gallon of Baquacil peroxide shock per 10,000 gallons of pool water.
- Add 2oz. of Algae 50 per 10,000 gallons of pool water.
- Pools with leaf debris, plaster finishes, well water, or heaters: add 1 qt. of metal control per 10,000 gallons of pool water.
- Add Pool Perfect during the spring and fall per label instructions.
- Circulate pool water for 24 hours and then bring a 12 oz. water sample to Pleasant Pools and Spas for water balance instructions.
For Chlorine Pools with Clear Water
- Add 2lbs. of chlorine shock per 10,000 gallons of pool water. Pre-dissolve shock in vinyl pools.
- Add 12 oz. of Algae 60 per 10,000 gallons of pool water.
- Pools with leaf debris, plaster finishes, well water, or heaters: add 1 qt. of Metal Control per 10,000 gallons of pool water.
- Add Pool Perfect Spring and Fall per label instructions.
- Circulate pool water for 24 hours and then bring a 12 oz. water sample to Pleasant Pools and Spas for water balance instructions.
